We knew the warmer than normal month of December was creating the distinct possibility of a brown Christmas but with the rain that started falling Thursday night, it would take a holiday miracle for Bing Crosby to get his wish.

There's no snow in the forecast and the chances of a White Christmas are withering away according to Terri Lang with Environment Canada who says it's rather unusual.

"There's just a 10 per cent chance of getting a brown Christmas so the odds are in favour of a white Christmas but this year might stick out as one of those years that it might now happen."

A cold front is expected to slip in behind this rain and drop daytime highs to more seasonable levels this weekend, but there is no mention of snow. Winter officially arrives just before 3:30 Friday afternoon.
