A vehicle discovered containing human remains found near Esterhazy on Monday belongs to Ruby Barnes.

RCMP confirmed the identity of the vehicle in a press release issued today but have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased. They said the forensic autopsy, including a comparison of dental records and possibly DNA if required, must be completed before the remains can be identified. The autopsy will be conducted on Friday by the Provincial Coroners Service.

The investigation has determined the vehicle located was the one being operated by 64-year-old Ruby Barnes at the time she was reported missing from the Carlyle area on June 18.

RCMP said the family of Barnes has been notified and this investigation remains ongoing pending a positive identification. At this time, the death is not considered suspicious.

At approximately 1 p.m. on October 22, Esterhazy RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle located in the bush on an isolated, rural property near Bangor, Saskatchewan.

The preliminary investigation determined that a single vehicle travelling on a remote, gravel road appears to have gone through a T-intersection and into dense bush and was not immediately visible from the road. The SUV had significant damage and alone, a deceased individual was located at the scene.
