He served in Afghanistan for seven months in 2010 as well he was part of the recovery efforts in 2011 when First Air Flight 6560 crashed into the mountains near Resolute Bay Nunavut during Operation Nanook, an annual military training exercise held in the arctic.

2nd LT. Justin Eddison is from Newfoundland and began his military career in 2007 as an Army reservist,

Eddison is now here at 15 Wing Moose Jaw training to be an air traffic controller, he reflected on the year of preparation preceding his tour of duty in Afghanistan.

"So in 2009, we started training on July 1st, so Canada Day I showed up to 2RCR that's the acronym they use for 'Royal Canadian Regiment' and we started training. It took place over a year-long period culminating to a point in California at Fort Irwin where we spent two months training in a very realistic environment. They have Hollywood special effects, Afghan Americans, Iraqi Americans playing actors so we can really immerse ourselves in the experience prior to going."

Eddison continued and detailed more about his deployment of Afghanistan.

"Following that on April 27th, 2010, I deployed to Afghanistan with 2RCR under the 1RCR Battlegroup. Within the company, I was a rifleman, the point guy at the very front of the section so I was the guy interacting with the locals, searching for threats, identifying any potential dangers towards the section."

He returned from Afghanistan in December of 2010 back home to Corner Brook Newfoundland and continued his army training.

In 2015 Eddison decided to switch branches and joined the RCAF as a pilot. He was posted to CFB Moose Jaw and has been training as an Air Traffic controller ever since.
