I think it was spring of 1988.  It was after years of mediocrity and ridicule.  It was during a time when we actually came together and had a telethon to save our team.

Then-Saskatchewan Roughriders GM Bill Baker came to Moose Jaw to touch base with local media.  A CHAB news reporter talked him into a deal that would have him organize bus trips to Rider games.  He'd make some money.  The Riders would get the ticket revenue and some butts in the seats.

I think about that today as I read a story from the Riders, boasting about the 3rd straight sell-out at the new Mosaic Stadium.  And, they have some stats.  Fans are attending from 175 Saskatchewan communities, 9 provinces and 12 United States.

It's kind of funny when you think about it.  It wasn't that long ago you could decide to go to a Rider game on game day and buy your tickets on the way in.  You can't risk that chance now, can you?

We used to go to support the team.  Now it's a status symbol to be at the Rider game. I'll bet Bill Baker's proud of us.
