Money is on the mind of many Canadian and Moose Jaw residents lately as it's tax time, and people are filing their paperwork to the Canada Revenue Agency.

That being said one local financial planner is hoping that residents make sure to look at all avenues of financial planning and what areas may work best for them in any situation as more and more people it seems are choosing a Trust Structure - not to be confused with a Trust Fund.

"A trust is effectively a structure which is put in place that's designed to manage money for someone else" says Aaron Ruston of Purposed Financial in Moose Jaw,  "There are many many reasons for that, some of it being that there are more 'joint families' or 'blended families' you might say, and there are children from both families coming together."

Ruston said it's a good way to bypass probate or challenges associated with a will when passing money to another person or generation.

He noted that a trust doesn't replace a will, nor is it a legal entity, but that a trust is managed by someone called a trustee who handles them specifically.

"We are seeing it used more often," says Ruston, "people can check it out online... go to dependable sources to check it out, but if you'd like some more information on them you can certainly give us a call."

Planning for your future or making a big decision about money isn't easy which is why Ruston suggests speaking to a consultant to browse choices that you may have not considered.
