Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as the winter blues, summer depression or by its acronym, SAD, is a mood disorder that can affect people who are sensitive to light, or at this time of year, the lack of it.

Donna Bowyer,  Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Moose Jaw Branch, says it's an issue that can often just get passed off as stress or ignored all together.

"It has to do with how much light that we're getting. If you're sitting in an office that doesn't have any windows then that will increase your risk. If you're a shift worker, shift workers that work the evening shift are at a higher risk." explained Bowyer. "Getting that light is really key to being able to stay healthy."

SAD doesn't impact a large amount of people and can be easily treated, either by taking Vitamin D pills or with a light therapy box.
