Saskatchewan’s Polytechnic’s Human Resources Management certificate program recently received accreditation from the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Saskatchewan.

Receiving accreditation means that graduates with an average of 70 per cent or higher can waive the National Knowledge Exam to become part of the CPHR.

“By waiving that knowledge exam, what this is saying is that our students are coming out with that knowledge. So, the applied learning that they do in the program and of the different learning activities that they do really enhance the knowledge that they have and brings them up to that national standard,” said Sask Polytech School of Business dean Kristen Craig.

The CPHR is the body that upholds the national standard for Human Resources and sets the benchmark for human resource practices.

Craig said receiving the accreditation is a big accomplishment for the program.

“The faculty that we have and the knowledge that they’re sharing in the classroom and the curriculum that we have is really meeting or exceeding industry standards because we wouldn’t receive that accreditation unless our curriculum had the rigour that it needs in order to receive this accreditation,” she said.

This is now the second human resource program at Sask Polytech to receive accreditation through CPHR Saskatchewan. The school’s Business diploma in Human Resources received accreditation in 2020.

The Business diploma in Human Resources program is offered at the Moose Jaw campus, while the Human Resource Management program is offered online or by correspondence.
