Is Premier Brad Wall ignoring what Saskatchewan wants or is he just ahead of the game?

With the shortage of medical isotopes, Wall says he plans on pitching a proposal to Ottawa within a month for Saskatchewan to become the new supplier for Canada. Medical isotopes are used in cancer and heart scans, but they've been in short supply since the shutdown of the Chalk River reactor last month.

The plan would toss our province into the uranium development business even though a report on the future of nuclear development in Saskatchewan is not expected until August, a report that includes public consultation.

Meanwhile, the isotope shortage in Canada is hitting Saskatchewan patients.

Another 18 bone scans have been postponed in the Saskatoon Health Region due to the shortage caused by the shutdown of Chalk River. Since that shutdown, nearly 170 scans have been postponed in Saskatoon.
