The Saskatchewan RCMP will be launching its first-ever Youth Advisory Committee following the results of a youth survey last year.

The survey was sent out to detachments across the province and 3,750 responses were received.

According to the RCMP, 70 per cent of comments on the survey were related to having positive interactions with the RCMP.

In reaction to the survey, the RCMP is creating the advisory committee to work with 100 youth to develop solutions to crime in Saskatchewan communities.

“In this first year, we are looking to engage with 100 youth by piloting nine detachment committees and 10 additional youth from communities across the province,” Community Program Officer Laili Yazdani said in a press release.

The RCMP is looking for kids between the ages of 12 and 17 who would like to work with the RCMP to address these issues as well as promote awareness events such as Pink Shirt Day.

Members of the committee are expected to volunteer six hours each month during the school year and participate in weekly meetings, monthly virtual meetings, and an annual camp for youth and mentors.

Kids taking part in the advisory committee will receive a volunteer certificate that can be used for employment and post-secondary applications.
