As of Wednesday morning, over 30,000 curling fans can through the doors at Mosaic Place to watch the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Some of those fans took part in the 50/50 draw that takes place each day.

With the draw, 50 per cent of the funds go to the winner, while the other half will be donated to Curl Moose Jaw.

Kevin deDelley, president of Curl Moose Jaw, says they have seen some large totals so far.

“The biggest one, unfortunately, went to Winnipeg, but the majority of them stayed within the province,” deDelley said.

“But we’ll spend the money right here in the city. We’ll try to buy whatever equipment we need to make it better for everybody and improve our club.”

He added that some of the money will also go towards Moose Jaw’s junior curling program.

“We, in turn, take the money and sponsor junior teams in their endeavours to win a provincial title or move on to provincials, qualify for provincials,” deDelley said.

Meanwhile, he said the young curlers from Moose Jaw have had a blast attending the Scotties this week, meeting the teams and getting jerseys.

“You get to see the excitement in their faces and the love of the game. They love curling already and they are going to build this sport and we are going to keep it alive in this city as long as we can.”
