Work can now begin on obtaining land at Westheath for a new joint-use school on South Hill in Moose Jaw.

Monday, the Boards of Education at Prairie South School Division and Holy Trinity Catholic School Division voted to move forward with the recommendation from the South Hill School Steering Committee.

The Westheath location was presented at a community consultation meeting at Riverview Collegiate earlier this year

Prairie South Board Chair Robert Bachmann called this a significant milestone in the project.

“We are very appreciative of the community members on South Hill who came together last year to highlight what they believe is important for a new school location,” Bachmann said in a statement on Tuesday. “Without the knowledge of people from the South Hill community, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

The provincial budget has $3.3 million earmarked this year for the advancement of three major school projects in the province, including the new facility to replace Sacred Heart, St. Mary, Empire and Westmount schools.
