Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons had an outstanding day on Thursday and it’s earn him a playoff spot at the Grand Slam of Curling's Tour Challenge in Regina.

Simmons rolled to a pair of wins, beating Heath McCormick, 11-1, in the afternoon and then downing Kyle Smith, 9-2, in the night draw to improve to 3-1 at the season-opening event.

That record was good enough to secure a second place finish in Pool B of the Tier 1 division for Simmons and send him into the playoff round on the weekend.

In Tier 2 division action, Moose Jaw’s Brock Montgomery and the Adam Casey rink lost 9-3 to Brendan Bottcher. They now sit fourth in Pool C with a 1-2 record.

On the women’s side, the Penny Barker rink dropped to 0-3 with a loss to Stefanie Lawton. The local rink finishes the round robin against Kelsey Rocque on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
