Many areas of southern Saskatchewan are not only under a heat advisory right now but are also under an air quality advisory as smoke from forest fires in Albert and British Columbia have travelled east.

It was first though that the smoke would move out by Thursday morning but it's now expected until the weekend according to Environment Canada's Terri Laing.

"It's being trapped because we have this big ridge of high pressure that is very, very stable and so we're expecting this wild fire smoke to be around for the next few days."

Forecasters expect the ridge of high pressure to move out Saturday, bringing more seasonable weather and allowing the smoke to dissipate. While most will not be impacted by the smoke, those with lung diseases or respiratory issues can be particularly sensitive to air pollution.
