The Canadian Forces Snowbirds 45th anniversary weekend officially began with the Snowbirds season coming to a close.

Friday afternoon the Snowbirds performed for a few hundred family, friends, former members and dignitaries at 15 Wing.

Snowbird number 2, Captain Ave Pyne, says having the Snowbirds alumni in the crowd was exciting, but not too nerve-wracking.

"There is a little bit of pressure, but one of the big things we talked about before we went flying was to fly for yourself. There are ex number ones, twos and threes out there, they are judging, but enjoy it and fly for yourself out there."

Pyne, said this was their most memorable show of the year.

"I won't lie, this seemed like one of the ones that is going to stand out the most. With the wind out of the south, we figured we might be in for a bumpy ride, but it flew around nicely and to have friends and family here was great."

Anniversary celebrations continue Saturday night with a banquet at the Heritage Inn.
