Moose Jaw was shut out in its season opener on Friday 4-0 in Prince Albert, before being outscored 9-4 in the home opener against Brandon on Saturday night. On a positive note, Warriors players Max Finley and Brady Ness scored their first WHL goals in Saturday night's loss. Moose Jaw is back in action Wednesday night in Regina.
The Moose Jaw Winmar AAA Warriors opened their regular season this weekend with a pair of home wins over the Battlefords Stars. Moose Jaw defeated Battlefords 6-2 Friday night, following that up with a 5-4 win on Saturday. The team is back in action Saturday when they host the Swift Current Legionnaires at 7 p.m. at the Southland Coop Centre in Assiniboia.
In NHL preseason action last night, Calgary blasted Vancouver 10-0, Winnipeg got by Edmonton 2-1 in a shootout, and Ottawa edged Toronto by a score of 3-2.
In high school football, the Central Cyclones fell to 2-1 on the season, getting shutout 22-0 in Weyburn on Friday. The Peacock Tornadoes picked up their first victory of the year with a 29-0 win over Estevan on Saturday.
The Vanier Vikings won their first game in 4A 9-aside football, outscoring the Gull Lake Lions 61-8 Friday afternoon.
In the CFL, the Saskatchewan Roughriders dropped a 36-28 decision to Ottawa on Friday. The loss drops the Riders to 6-8 on the season, but that's still good enough for third spot in the West Division. Saskatchewan will travel to BC on Friday for a matchup with the 10-4 Lions.
In the Majors, the Toronto Blue Jays picked up a series-clinching win in Tampa Bay yesterday, downing the Rays 9-5. The Jays currently occupy the second wild card spot in the American League. Toronto has the night off before starting a three-game home series against the New York Yankees tomorrow night.
