Despite opening the scoring 90 seconds into the first period on Wednesday night, the Moose Jaw Warriors were on the wrong end of a 7-3 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on home ice.

Jagger Firkus had two goals and three points in the loss, while Martin Rysavy finished with a goal and two points, and Brayden Yager picked up two helpers. Moose Jaw will hit the road to Saskatoon on Friday and then will return home on Saturday night to play the Prince Albert Raiders. 

Ahead of their first-round playoff matchup, some big news for the Moose Jaw WINMAR AAA Warriors. Last week, forward Connor Miller verbally committed to play Division I hockey at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following his junior career.

"I'm pretty excited!" says Miller. "It was a lot of thinking, I did not originally plan to go to school after I was done playing in Saskatchewan. It was a hard decision to make but I think it's the right one for my playing future and personally the right decision."

On the season Miller has 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points in 43 games. The Warriors travel to Saskatoon on Friday night to open up their playoffs against the Contacts at 7:00 p.m. 

Moose Jaw's Avery Gibney lost her Bronze medal bout on Wednesday at the Canada Winter Games in PEI. Brooklyn Nimegeers scored a goal and added an assist on Wednesday, as Team Saskatchewan took down New Brunswick 3-2 in women's hockey to finish pool play. They will play Nova Scotia on Friday in the quarterfinals. 

In Junior boy's basketball action on Wednesday, Assiniboia took down Peacock 56-49 and South Hill was 73-54 winners over Briercrest. 

And over to the NHL, Toronto fell 5-2 to Edmonton.
