Moose Jaw U18 AAA Warriors have been hard at work this week preparing for their pre-season opener on Sunday against the Swift Current Legionnaires. Head coach Trevor Weisgerber says that Sunday's game will be good for the players to get their feet wet.
"We're just more or less using it to keep working on our systems and getting some chemistry with our lines and things like that," says Weisgerber.
Game time is 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
Moose Jaw product and Warriors forward Atley Calvert has been invited to play in the Buffalo Sabres Prospect Showcase next week in Buffalo. Calvert will look to show his skills to NHL scouts, GMs and coaches. Last year, he put up 15 goals and added 25 assists for the Warriors. Moose Jaw will open their WHL pre-season tomorrow against the Swift Current Broncos at the Moose Jaw events centre. The club wants you to know season tickets are ready for pick-up. The office is open 10:00 'til 5:00 each day this week.
In Moose Minor Hockey news, starting on Thursday through until Saturday the U15 and U18 AA clubs will be hosting their tryouts at the big rink downtown.
In high school football, Vanier, Central, and Peacock are all in action this weekend. Peacock will host Central Collegiate at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Vanier hosting Swift Current at 3:15 p.m. Both games will be played at Gutheridge Field.
Week 14 in the CFL gets going on Friday night as the BC Lions travel to Montreal to take on the Alouettes. That is followed by three games on Saturday, Toronto is in Ottawa to battle with the Redblacks, later the Saskatchewan Roughriders look for revenge against the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl at 3 o'clock local time, and the nightcap will see Edmonton host Calgary.
And the Toronto Blue Jays were able to take the series in Baltimore with a 4-1 win last night against the Orioles. The jays will have today off and travel to Arlington for a weekend series against the Texas Rangers starting tomorrow night.
