The countdown is on for the Moose Jaw Warriors as they open their 2023-2024 Western Hockey League season. The Warriors start the season on the road Friday night in Prince Albert at 7 p.m. to face the Raiders. The Warriors' home opener is at 7 p.m. on Saturday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. The Winmar AAA Warriors open their regular season this weekend with back-to-back games against the Battlefords Stars at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. Game one goes at 7 p.m. on Friday and they are back at it at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
In senior high school volleyball action last night, the Vanier boys defeated Peacock three sets to one. It was the Cornerstone boys over Avonlea three sets to one and the Vanier girls picked up a three sets to one win over Peacock.
The Moose Jaw High School Junior Girls Volleyball League gets underway tonight with games starting at 6:20 p.m. Notre Dame, Rouleau, Central Gold and Peacock Orange will be playing at Peacock Collegiate. Peacock Green, Central Red and Vanier will face off at Vanier and Central Butte, Avonlea, Cornerstone and Riverview will be playing at Riverview.
Over in Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays opened a three-game series against the New York Yankees last night, picking up a 7-1 win. The two teams are back in action tonight with righty Kevin Gausman taking the mound for the Jays. Toronto sits one game up on Texas and Seattle in the race for the final wild card spot in the American League.
