STARS Air Ambulance released a public statement on their Facebook page informing the public of a fraudulent caller(s), who have made several calls to Saskatchewan residents claiming to be a STARS Lottery Representative.

The non-profit organization lifts critically ill or injured patience to nearby hospitals, while giving patience treatment. STARS lottery helps raise fund for STARS Air Ambulance from May to July with the lottery, giving cash, luxury homes and vehicles as prizes.

Cam Heke Spokesperson with STARS who explained that STARS lottery would never ask for payment if a participant was to win a prize.

"It's really disappointing when this sort of thing happens, and it's not unique we've had this happen over the years. It's very disappointing that somebody would go and do such a thing and pull a scam when it's involving a charitable organization like ours," he said.

Heke also explained that Saskatchewan residents shouldn't even be receiving anything from STARS lottery at this time of year, for they have already had their 2015 lottery. Heke also explained that when the lottery is on, winners receive a phone call with the STARS lottery representative identifying themselves directly, then a signed letter in the mail with a prize number and all without asking for any kind of payment.

The organization has been notified of approximately 10 fraudulent calls to residents from mostly around the Regina area, and advise the public to immediately inform their local RCMP detachment of the call.
