Parker Rhys Auchstaetter (R) and his grandma, Leila Elder, pose at 121 Restaurant during the steak night

They were fundraising for football in Assiniboia Thursday night. About 170 people showed up for a great steak dinner for an excellent, local cause.

All told, between the steaks, 50/50 draw, and silent auction, about $2400 was raised to split between the players and their families who helped out.

The South Sask Selects football teams (12U, 14U and 16U groups) are gearing up for a tournament in San Antonio, TX in February, but they have to pay their own way to get there, about $2000 per player.

A few players from the Assiniboia area are spread across the three age groups, including 16U player, Parker Auchstaetter.

The 16-year old is 6'3, 230 lbs. and plays centre for the Assiniboia Rockets football team.  He was among many team members, family and friends selling steak night tickets at 121 restaurant and lounge Thursday night, all to raise money for the upcoming trip.

"We go down (to San Antonio) the 11th of February and come back the 16th", Parker told us at the steak night. As for the competition they'll face? "There's a couple Mexican teams, a couple from the 'States," said Parker.  "We'll play a couple round-robin games, then hopefully the final."

The Assiniboia Southern Rebels will also donate proceeds from their game this Sunday to the Assiniboia South Sask Selects players.
