City Council has narrowly approved a 2.32 percent increase to the mill rate as they finalize the 2007 Operating Budget.

First it was the hospital levy, then it was an increase to sewer and water rates, and finally we will see an increase to property taxes this year.

Moose Jaw City Council narrowly passed a mill rate increase last night of 2.32 per cent; an increase Mayor Dale McBain says was necessary. "I think it’s a sound budget and sustainable budget. What it does is say we're going to maintain the services that we've built up as a city over the last number of years and the services that the citizens of Moose Jaw have come to expect and we're budgeting for those services."

But this probably won't be the end of tax increases in Moose Jaw just yet. The Prairie South School Division has yet to set their mill rate for the year. A rate that has steadily increased in recent years.
