The City of Moose Jaw released an advisory that states the Parks & Recreation department will complete its Boulevard Elm Tree Basal Spraying Program between Monday, August 15th and Friday, September 9th, weather permitting.

This program is implemented to reduce the population of elm bark beetles and therefore reduce the spread of Dutch Elm Disease.

The chemical being used is Pyrate 480 EC and it will be applied to the bottom 50 cm of City-owned elm trees only. The chemical will be applied under low pressure, minimizing the possibility of drift.

Parks and Recreation will be spraying city owned trees in the following areas:

• Between Spring Creek Park and Caribou St W from the Canadian Pacific Railway to 9th Ave NW

• Between Caribou St W and the Canadian Pacific Railway from 12th Ave NW to 9th Ave NW

• Between MacDonald Street and High Street West from 9th Ave NW to 4th Ave NW

• Between the Canadian Pacific Railway and Coteau St from 12th Ave SW to 4th Ave SE

• Between Coteau St E and City Limits from Main St S to 12th Ave SE

• Between Coteau St W and City Limits from 16th Ave SW to 12th Ave SW

• Between the Canadian National Railway and Caribou St E from Main St N to 13th Ave NE

• Sunningdale Athletic Field Prior to spraying, the area will be posted, adjacent residents will be notified and trees to be sprayed will be marked with a colored dot.

Please contact a licensed pesticide applicator if you wish to have your private elm trees sprayed.

If all elm trees in the city were sprayed, the spread of Dutch Elm Disease could be reduced by 97%.

If you require any additional information, or are chemically sensitive, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 306- 631-4958.
