Locked out Unifor members say they're frustrated with the Saskatchewan Party and the delay in coming to a new collective agreement between the province and its striking crown corporations.

"I am frustrated with a government that seems to consistently try and attack the crown corporations and the people that work for them," said Lorne Hill, a network technician of over 20 years for SaskTel, "and the shareholders, the people of the province of Saskatchewan, I don't think we should stand for it."

The sentiment seemed to be shared by other members who are now into their second week of picketing. A group of over 40 Unifor members held a Solidarity Rally Wednesday in front of MLA Greg Lawrence's constituency office to attempt to answer members' questions.

One member, an employee of Sasktel who wished to remain anonymous, said Wednesday that she's "very frustrated" with the Sask Party's current mandate and lack of progress towards a collective agreement.

"There's a bigger picture here, it's not just about me, it's about my future, but also my kids' future," said the Moose Jaw woman. "If these mandates continue, what kind of a future will she have? I'm out on the picket line when I should be at work, earning a paycheck, not worrying about how I'm going to pay my bills in the next few weeks."

More than 5,000 crown corporation employees are striking province-wide. Rallies have been held in Regina, Saskatoon, and other major centers.

"Everybody wants to go back to work," said Hill. "Being on strike or being locked out in our case is not good for the pocketbooks of anybody, not the working people, it's not good for the pocketbooks of the business community here in Moose Jaw, and it's also not good for the pocketbooks of the province of Saskatchewan. It seems that the provincial government is willing to spend any amount of money in order to take money away from the bottom line of the crown corporation, which is an asset of the people of Saskatchewan."

MLA Greg Lawrence was not available for comment during the rally.
