(file photo)There were three games on the High School Junior Basketball League schedule on Wednesday night and three different schools came away with wins.

Vanier Tops Central

The Vanier Spirits started the night off by going into Central and picking up a 41-37 win over the Cyclones in Junior Girls Basketball action.

It was a back-and-forth game with Vanier taking an 11-5 lead after the first quarter only to be held to just three points in the second quarter, while Central took a 17-14 lead at the break.

The two teams battled in the third quarter as the Cyclones opened up a 25-19 advantage, but that changed in the fourth quarter.  The Spirits caught fire and more than doubled their scored with 21 in the final frame for the win.

Jaycee Ludke scored 11 points to lead the way for Vanier, while Rae Whitehead had a game-high 14 points for Central in the loss.

Central Boys Roll Over Riverview

The Riverview Royals kept pace with the Central Cyclones for one quarter on Wednesday night, but they couldn't do it for all four as the Cyclones picked up a 93-43 win on their home court.

The first quarter was tight with Central heading into the break with a 27-19 lead, but the Cyclones continued to score and the Royals couldn't keep up.

Central held a 50-32 advantage at halftime and then stretched that to 70-38 by the end of the third quarter and finished it off by outscoring the Royals 23-5 in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Reidy led all scorers with 18 points in the win for Central, while Hamed Shahidi chipped in with 17 points.

Toilers Win Close One Over Royals

It was low scoring and it was close on Wednesday night between the Peacock Toilers and Riverview/Cornerstone Royals in Junior Girls Basketball action.

Peacock had a slim three-point lead on Riverview/Cornerstone at the halftime break and that stuck all the way until the end as they picked up a 37-34 win.

Jaycee Richards picked up a game-high 20 points for Peacock, while Awar Odhiang scored 17 in a losing effort for the Royals.

Senior Basketball Returns Thursday

The Central Cyclones will invade Vanier on Thursday night to face off with the Vikings and Spirits in High School Senior Basketball action.

The girls open the night at 6:15pm and then the boys are on the court at eight.

The Peacock girls will also be in Assiniboia on Thursday at 6:15pm.
