The Vanier Vikings senior boys volleyball team will be on the road to North Battleford tonight, headed for the final steps in defending their provincial championship.

Head coach Levi Broda said the team is ready for their big challenge.

“We’re very hopeful and very thankful for the opportunity,” he said. “We know that if we play our game we’re going to have a lot of fun this weekend, and it’ll hopefully give us a chance to hopefully compete for a medal this weekend.”

Vanier starts their provincials with a battle with Melfort at noon tomorrow. Being the defending 4A champions comes with a lot of pressure, but it's good pressure to be playing and practicing under, explains Broda.

“It’s really positive pressure in the sense that it’s really allowed us to focus on our training and what our jobs are,” he said. “(There is) a lot of excitement and just some great energy in the gym.

The Central Cyclones are in the other pool of five teamsa t the same provincials, and the two teams may end up playing each other at some point in the playoffs.

Other local teams in boys volleyball provincials are Cornerstone in 2A in Wilkie, and Mossbank and Rouleau in 1A in Glaslyn and Medstead.
