Events like the Scotties Tournament of Hearts don’t happen with the support of volunteers and Moose Jaw answered that call.

It didn’t take long for the organizing committee to round up enough volunteers to get the women’s national curling championship off the ground.

The Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce estimates about 400 volunteers are taking part in the event.

Volunteer Randy Nesvold explains some of the jobs that volunteers do.

“There’s everything from driving everyone back and forth from their hotels, food services, ushers, 50/50 sellers, administration, you name it,” Nesvold said.

This is the second time that Nesvold has volunteered with the Scotties. He also offered his services when the championship was in town in 2015.

He said he volunteered because of his experience of the Moose Jaw Warriors Booster Club.

“I did the Scotties five years ago and I’m the president of the Warriors Booster Club, so I know the system for 50/50s. It was only logical that I help out again,” Nesvold said.

He added that, although he lives in Regina now, he still comes back to Moose Jaw to volunteer because it is good for the community.
