The Moose Jaw Warriors added goaltending depth to the organization on Thursday in a draft day trade with the Red Deer Rebels.

The Warriors have acquired 20-year-old goalie Connor Ungar, 18-year-old goalie Justen Maric and a fourth round pick in 2024 in exchange for 18-year-old goalie Kyle Kelsey, fourth round pick in 2022 and a sixth round pick in 2026.

“This trade gives us more depth in our net and will give us a strong one-two punch with Jackson Unger to make us more competitive next season,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.

Ungar posted a 21-9-1-0 record in 34 appearances for the Rebels in 2021-22. He finished with a 2.43 goals against average and a 0.911 save percentage with one shutout.

“Connor is coming from a good organization where he had a real good year and we’re looking for him to be a leader in the locker room,” Ripplinger said.

Maric stands in at six-foot, 165 lbs. and was selected by the Rebels in the fifth round, 98th overall, by the Rebels in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.

He played with the CAC Canadians U18 AAA team in Edmonton last season, posting a 6-10-6 record with a 3.40 goals against average in 23 games.

In his draft year with OHA Edmonton U15 Prep, Maric went 11-3-1 with a 2.37 goals against average and 0.915 save percentage in 16 games.

“Maric was a highly touted in his draft year and gives us more depth at the goaltending position,” Ripplinger said.
