Team Canada dropped both games to the United States in a pair of split squad games to open up the 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase in Kamloops, B.C. on Tuesday night.

Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Jett Woo and Canada White fell 3-2 to United States Blue.

Woo was held off the scoresheet in Canada White's loss, while Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds forward Barrett Hayton and Portland Winterhawks forward Cody Glass scored in the loss.

Canada Red dropped a back-and-forth affair to United States White, losing 7-5.

The two sides traded goals in the first period, ending the frame all square at 2-2. The Americans exploded to start the second period, scoring three goals and moving in front 5-3 by the end of the period.

In the third, Canada Red came storming back with two goals in opening 7:03 to tie the game, including one from Halifax Mooseheads forward Antonie Morand just 48 seconds into the period, but the Hughes brothers connected for the game-winning goal as Jack set up Quinn with 2:25 to play.

Oliver Wahlstrom added some insurance into an empty net a minute later.

Morand and University of Denver defenceman Ian Mitchell had a goal and two points for Canada Red in the loss.

In other action on Tuesday, Finland skated to a 4-3 shootout win over Sweden.

The teams get Wednesday off before returning to the ice on Thursday with Canada facing Finland at 7 p.m. The United States squares off with Sweden at 2 p.m.
