Residents may experience discoloured water from their taps as the City of Moose Jaw begins its Unidirectional Water Main Flushing Program on Sept. 7.

Flushing will be taking place in Zone 2, with the majority of the work taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. You can find an interactive map of where the water main flushing is taking place can be found here

The flushing program is to remove mineral deposits and improve water quality as well as improve the carrying capacity of the water pipes.

During this time, residents are asked to limit their use of water while crews are flusing in their area as the water may have a brown or rusty appearance. The city is recommending residents store water ahead of time for potable use.

The program is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.

Once the flushing is complete, the water may be discoloured for no more than a day. The city says opeing your cold water taps one at a time for about 30 to 60 seconds can help clear water that is cloudy or contains sediments. After that, if the water remains discoloured, repeat the process until the water is clear.

Motorists are reminded to watch for work crews adjacent to the roads and continuously flowing water and use caution when passing these work zones.
