The Moose Jaw Midget AA Mavericks couldn’t find their way back into the win column on Wednesday night as they lost 5-3 to the Swift Current Broncos in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

Moose Jaw got a goal and three points from Myra Szabo in the loss, while Mikayla Anderson added a goal and two points.

Swift Current’s Bailey Wilson opened the scoring just 1:11 into the game as the Broncos built up a two-goal lead in the first period. They extended that lead to 3-0 with a goal just before the midway point of the second.

Anderson was able to get Moose Jaw on board when she scored on the power play with 3:46 left in the second period.

Swift Current restored their three-goal lead early in the third period, but the Mavericks didn’t go away and Szabo pulled them back within two with 8:27 to go in the game.

Delaney Townsend made it a one-goal game with 2:48 to play, but that was as close as Moose Jaw was able to get with Swift Current scoring in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Moose Jaw goalie Sydney Christmann turned away 23 shots in the loss for the Mavericks, while the Mavericks fired 27 shots on the Broncos’ net.

Next action for the Mavericks is coming up next Wednesday when they face the Parkland Lions.

The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors came away empty handed from their Wednesday trip to the Queen City as they lost 5-0 to the Regina Vics in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League action.

Moose Jaw gave up three power play goals and went 0-for-5 with the man advantage themselves.

The Warriors return to the ice on Thursday as they head back to Regina to face the Rangers to end their week.
