The 15th Annual 800 CHAB Family First Radiothon, which was held last week, was able to raise a whopping $269,950, with all money going to the Dr FH Wigmore Hospital.

The amount raised is over double the initial goal set by host 800 CHAB, which has led some to wonder where all of the extra money raised might be going.

Executive Director of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Kelly McElree explained.

"The additional funds will provide options. Options to the healthcare professionals at our hospital so they can purchase an additional ceiling lift for the dialysis unit. We will also be consulting with individuals at the hospital, medical professionals, to see where those funds could be best used."

The initial goal amount of $125,000 is enough for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation to purchase a new transonic monitor, BRODA chairs, a pyxis med station, and ceiling lifts. These additional funds will now allow the Health Foundation to spread the wealth toward different areas within the hospital.

"One of the key areas that we want to help out in is in training. There are sophisticated units called Sim Units which provides a way for nurses and other healthcare professionals to train in real-life situations on practice dummies in order to learn. We will be providing some of the funds toward that as well."

More specifically, McElree says additional funds will be going toward Critical Care Training for nurses - something which CP Rail donated $20,000 toward last week during the radiothon.

In a statement, CP Rail said the following:

"Through our community investment program, CP Has Heart, we are proud to fund the enhanced training of six ICU nurses. This donation will complement the new cardiac and monitoring equipment in the ICU from last year's Family First Radiothon."
