Where is Frank Atchison?

The 94-year-old Shriner is walking from Saskatoon to Regina to raise money for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Montreal.

So far, Atchison said the experience has been a lot of fun.

“It’s just a pleasure to be out visiting with all the people. It’s surprising the number of people that stopped and gave you a donation and wishes you the best and all that kind of stuff. So, it’s good old Saskatchewan hospitality,” he said.

Atchison began is trip on April 15 and he has been walking five kilometres along Highway 11 each day and stopping at all the small towns along the way to meet with people and collect donations.

His next stop is expected to be Chamberlain on Friday afternoon.

“They're going to have a little get-together. We're going to have a patient there that's going to our hospital. It happens to be his birthday, so we're going to have a little birthday party for him and what not. So yeah, it's really been enjoyable,” Atchison said.

According to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital website, Atchison has raised over $26,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

The walk is scheduled to end on June 15, Atchison’s 95th birthday, at the WAWA Shriners of Saskatchewan Temple where he will also receive his 50-year Shrine Service Pin.

Those interested in making a donation towards Atchison’s cause can do so through the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital website.
