The National Farmers Union is a bit upset that agriculture has not been a topic discussed by election candidates.

The National Farmers Union wants the candidates in the Federal Election campaign to put more of a focus on agricultural issues.

NFU President Stewart Wells says they're working on a document to put forth to the parties called "A Better Canadian Direction" which outlines the challenges facing farmers over the past several years.

"There is no end of issues that we think could be addressed that could really turn things around and give Canadians more confidence in their food supply and at the same time, create the situation so family farmers can plan for the future."

Wells says the NFU hopes the party that wins the election will increase the Agricultural budget, rather that continue cutting it.

While agriculture may be missing from the national campaigns, local voters know how important it is to the economy. When voters took part in our recent web poll choosing the top local issues, agriculture was fourth on the list.
