Now that the site has been selected for Moose Jaw’s new Regional Hospital, work will begin on planning the actual facility.

Executive director of the new hospital project John Liguori says they will start the Production Preparation Process this week. "We have a team of physician leaders, staff, patients and family members that will come together to collaborate the start of the configuration of the new hospital. This will be critical work that will actually guide our architects and builders in the preliminary stages."

Liguori adds that the unique thing about this process is that it allows the providers and the patients to direct the architects in what will be needed in the new hospital.

The 3-P plan was also used for the Saskatchewan Children’s Hospital.

Moose Jaw found out on Friday where the new Regional Hospital for the city would be built.  It’s going to be on a 30 acre spot of land just east of the Western Development Museum on Diefenbaker Drive. Moments after the announcement was made, many started to question the location.

Everything from bus service to the remote location of the site was being questioned. Critics argued it was to far from South Hill, it's isolated with no infrastructure, the site is hard to access and so on.

But there is a reason for the site that was selected on the north side of the city. Executive Director of the new hospital project John Liguori says they wanted to be sure there was enough parking space after the problems at the current Union Hospital.

"We need to make sure that we had safe access to the site, both from a vehicular stand point and one of the considerations was how do emergency services, such as ambulances, access the site for transporting patients in but also outward for patients who get transported to Regina."

Future use of the land and growth of the city were also considered when selecting the site. Liguori adds that a long-term care facility could be possibly added to the site down the road and that played into the amount of land they needed. The idea is that another building could easily be added to the site if needed.
