The Wakamow Valley Authority (WVA) is pleased to bring back the annual Valley of Lights event, this winter.

Starting Dec. 1, the public will be able to tour the beautifully lit Winter Wonderland Wakamow Valley, which features over 80 decorated Christmas trees and over 100,000 total lights.

Last year, the WVA hosted over 10,000 people throughout the duration of the event. This year is said to be bigger than ever.

“We’ve expanded our light show to the Sioux Bridge, entering the skating oval area,” says General Manager of the WVA, Donna MacQuarrie-Bye. “Peacock Collegiate made more stars and candy canes that are illuminated on the driveway path... We increased our programming too; We have a couple of walk-through nights, where we will have Elsa from Frozen (on December 11th) ... We also have Santa Claus scheduled for (December) 18th.”

Henry, the 17-foot illuminated moose that was revealed at this year’s Grey Cup, will also be on display.

On December 15, the Moose Jaw Community Choir will be in attendance, serenading everyone with Christmas Carols.

Locals are welcome to enjoy the tour on a wagon ride on December 9 and Christmas Eve, for only $20 for the whole family. Pre-booking is not required but is heavily suggested.

Admission is a small donation of only $10 per car or truck. Limos, buses, and other large vehicles will be a modest admission donation of $50.00. The WVA asks that limos and paratransit buses book their vehicle prior to arrival. The paratransit buses will be a donation of $5.00 per person too.

The WVA also asks that the public either prepay to receive a ticket or pay with cash on arrival. Prepayments can be made at the Wakamow Valley Office

This is Wakamow Valley’s leading fundraiser.

“It is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” MacQuarrie-Bye explains. “All the money that is generated from [the event] goes back into the operations of the Valley.”

This year, Valley of Lights will run until January 7, 2023, the Ukrainian Christmas.

“Hopefully we can do a fundraising event around [Ukrainian Christmas]; A fundraising event within a fundraising event... Fundraising for Red Cross for the Ukrainian Relief is what we're [thinking].”
