While the search continues for a new naming rights sponsor for the Moose Jaw Events Centre, there will at least be some stability with the Yara Centre.

City council voted in favour for renewing the naming rights with Yara Belle Plaine Inc. for the soccer and field house facility.

Mayor Clive Tolley said getting the deal done is exciting news for the city.

"I think it is a really positive thing and some of the councillors commented about it's one of the facilities that's really been a pleasant surprise. It is very well used, Yara is pleased with their sponsorship and during Grey Cup week one of the teams in the Grey Cup was in our facility in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan practicing. I think that's a feather in our cap," Tolley said.

The deal is worth $500,000 over 10 years, or $50,000 annually.

Yara originally entered into a naming rights agreement with the Moose Jaw Downtown and Soccer/Field-House Facilities Inc. in December of 2012 in a 10-year agreement. That agreement expires on Dec. 31.

"Committing to another 10 years is really incredible considering the times that we are in. That facility has really evolved and grown and it has become such an important asset to the health and wellness of our citizens, so thanks very much to Yara for their continued support," said Coun. Crystal Froese.

There are no major changes to the agreement and a signing ceremony will be taking place on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Yara Centre.
