According to Moose Jaw North MLA Warren Michelson, 2018 was a busy and good year, and one with substantial change.

The Saskatchewan party representative said, "We saw a new leader of the party, and a new premier...Premier Scott Moe was elected. We also have a new leader of the Opposition, and three new MLAs in the legislature."

Michelson said the introduction of Clare's Law and lengthening the leave for maternity related to social issues that needed to be addressed. Michelson also pointed to the year-over-year employment increase by 9,400 jobs, the

province's Prairie Resilience program, and regulations for cannabis as successes for the provincial government in 2018.

Michelson said getting a balanced budget, pipelines built, and battling the federal government's imposed carbon tax are top priorities for the New Year.

He also said resource-driven economies are suffering, while Quebec is "boasting" a $3 billion surplus in their budget. Michelson said, "Is it fair? We don't think so. Is the federal government open to look at that? They're really reluctant to look at it, which is very unfortunate. We aren't getting the federal leadership that we require as a country, and especially on behalf of Western Canada and Saskatchewan."

Closer to home, Michelson said his two top priorities are, "The intersection for Trans Canada Highway and Ninth Avenue, which has some real safety concerns, and has had for some time. The other priority I've got would be a residence for Saskatchewan Polytechnic. We're still looking for a partnership, to see how we can put that together."

Michelson said the $690,000 the City received - which came from bilateral agreements between the federal and provincial governments - for "renewed policing" would be an improvement for Moose Jaw.
