Special Olympics Saskatchewan hosted the 8th Annual Curling Bonspiel in Regina, on January 21 and 22.

Swift Current was one of the teams competing, however, they were short on players.

Moose Jaw’s own, Bradly Volk, 17, stepped up and volunteered to play second position with the Swift Current curling team.

Bradly just wanted to help out where he could and have some fun while doing it.

“Coach emailed Melissa [Romanow, the Manager for Special Olympics Moose Jaw] about not having enough players, so then Melissa emailed my dad,” Bradly explained. “I wasn’t planning on doing curling this year, but I’m like, ‘anything to help out the Special Olympics.’”

He came home with a silver medal after the team won every game right up until the final.

“I definitely had a fun experience with Swift Current. They’re always positive, but I kept getting frustrated that my shots weren’t working as intended. I just love how [the coaches] always told me to smile and have fun. So, that’s what I did!”
