A large group of residents from across the country received the Senate of Canada 150 Medal in Ottawa recently, with Moose Jaw's own Yvette Moore being one of those very people.

"(It) celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first sitting of the Senate on November 6th, 1867," said Moore. "The medal was created to mark this important occasion and to give honourable Senators an opportunity to recognize up to 12 Canadians (each) who have made significant contributions in their communities."

Moore added that continuously contributing to our city is a part of who she is and strives to be. She also had someone make the trip to Ottawa with her, which made it even more memorable.

"It was pretty incredible and I think what made it even more special was that I brought my mother along with me and she was sitting in the audience... I know I was there, but really I feel that I didn't do it alone. It was because of everybody in this community and in this province that have been there that have made a lot of things happen and that's what made it so special."

Despite there only being a small select few who were given this distinction, Moore said she wasn't the only Moose Javian there.

"It was such a great honour to also be there with the Snowbirds, Lt. Colonel Mike French was there as well accepting one of the medals on behalf of our province and the Snowbirds that are based right here in Moose Jaw."

Moore got the letter of invitation to the ceremony at the end of September.
