MJPS arrest youth following traffic stop
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged by the Moose Jaw Police Service following a traffic stop Tuesday. Members of Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and the Canine Unit, along with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol Canine Unit, conducted the stop on Civic Centre Drive at about 12:15 p.m. Police said the boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was found to be in breach of his release order and was arrested. A search of the vehicle turned up a firearm with ammunition, 18.9 grams of cocaine, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia. The boy has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, breach of probation and several firearm-related offences. He made his first appearance in Moose Jaw provincial court Wednesday and was remanded to a provincial juvenile detention centre.
