Every now and then you'll see one of our original 800 CHAB Sunspots on a vintage vehicle around Saskatchewan.

It was back in the late 70s and early 80s when everybody wanted one.  It was a promotion that included coupons on the back of the stickers and periodically we'd hit the road in the CHAB Cruiser and put the call out.  We'd go live on the radio and tell our listeners where we were and the first motorist with a Sunspot on their vehicle to come and see us would win $80.00!  It was a lot of fun, although it did almost cause a few fender benders!

Loyal listener Michael Makowsky Pohl is sharing this photo of a Sunspot with us this week.  It's still on the window at his grandparents' home on South Hill - Moose Jaw.

Michael says his dad, Gregg, put the Sunspot on his childhood bedroom window when he was a boy back in 1984 after he and some classmates came home from a tour of the old studios at 116 Main Street North.  CHAB was located on the 2nd floor of that now vacant building.

"The Pohl house loves 800 CHAB," Michael wrote.

Michael says his dad told him, "I do remember our class took a tour of the radio station.  I was fascinated by how the automatic music equipment worked and how they transmitted the signal from the station...out to Pasqua (where the transmitter is located) to be broadcast around southern Saskatchewan...The equipment was fairly big and solid state electronics because it was just after the end of the 70s."

Yes, we did have some large machines plugged in back in those days and some of it was state-of-the-art for the time.  Some veterans of CHAB still talk about the old studio with the brown, shag carpet, a comfy couch and automated curtains that we could open and close with the push of a button.

Thanks so much for sharing, Michael and thanks to the Pohl family for being loyal listeners.
