So, you may remember last week when I talked about all the job vacancies in Saskatchewan, including Moose Jaw. There are over 7000 jobs open in Saskatchewan - dozens right here in Moose Jaw.
I said, "It seems to me, unless there are extenuating circumstances, if you're unemployed in Moose Jaw, you're not trying hard enough."
Counterpoint: A local listener writes, "I see what you're saying but!"
"As someone on the job market not too long ago, I'd say a caveat is that the type of job matters. Retail/food service wants you to have 24/7 availability, but wants to give you part time hours, anything from 10-30 hours a week, which you can't survive on at ...minimum wage unless you're a server making some pretty boss tips.
So your part time, minimum wage job doesn't want to give you full time hours, but because of the shift work aspect of it, you can't get another job without jeopardizing the first one's constantly moving hours.
Being employed isn't hard. Being gainfully employed can be difficult."
Thanks for listening and thanks for your input.
