He was a diminutive boy from Lafleche who went on to live large.

Yogi Huyghebaert passed away yesterday at the age of 74.

Huyghebaert was an accomplished military pilot.  He joined the RCAF in 1961 and went on to earn his wings and join and lead the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.

Retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, he continued to serve, becoming a valuable member of the Saskatchewan Party and eventually our provincial government representing the south country riding of Wood River.

My relationship with Yogi was strictly professional.  I can tell you he always returned my calls and always obliged when I requested an interview.

I know a number of people who were a part of his social circle.  They loved him.  They loved his stories and his hospitality - they tell me he was a wonderful cook.

Rest in peace, Lieutenant-Colonel.  You'll be missed.  You were one of our best.
