FOWLER, KATHERINE AMELIA “AMY” (Bell)

January 30, 1927 –April 15, 2018

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grama and Great-grama, Amy Fowler, on April 15, 2018 at Providence Place, at the age of 91 years. Amy was born on the family farm near Bateman, SK on January 30, 1927 to John and Eliza Bell.  Amy’s Funeral Service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca St E., Moose Jaw. When Amy finished grade 12, she moved to Moose Jaw to attend teacher’s training at the Provincial Normal School and graduated in 1946.  She moved to the Bengough area, teaching at Muddy View School for two terms.  Then she taught one term at Clinton School, north of Moose Jaw.  While teaching at Clinton, Amy boarded with Lou and Harry Francis and Lou introduced her to a young farmer who lived about two miles north of the school, and that match-making ended in Amy marrying George Fowler on Sept. 17, 1949. Amy loved being a farmer’s wife and was delighted when their family expanded when Kathy, Linda and George were each born. Amy was the ultimate home-maker, growing a huge garden each year, making jam, jellies, and pickles; keeping a beautiful yard, with flowers blooming from spring to fall. She sewed, knit, crocheted, did peti-point and needle point, kept an immaculate house, and was an exceptional cook. Amy enjoyed having people in and would set the table beautifully.  George & Amy loved to travel and did a fair amount of camping as well. Amy was always involved in the Church of Christ—teaching Sunday School for decades and helping out with whatever needed to be done. Amy was a member of the Mount Pleasant Community Ladies Group we believe since its inception, until health issues made it impossible for her to be involved. Over the years Amy enjoyed many hobbies—bowling, ceramics, oil painting, genealogy, china painting, writing classes … and shopping—she loved shopping!! Amy was a wonderful grandmother to her seven grandchildren.  She loved being a very active part of their lives and was proud of all of them.  She was thrilled when the great-grandchildren started to arrive--loving them all dearly! In April 2016, due to deteriorating health Mom moved to the long-term care facility in Gravelbourg for several months until she got moved to Providence Place in October of that year. Amy is survived by her children:  Kathy & Lew Young, Linda & Dan Goud and George & Terri-Lynn Fowler. By her grandchildren:  Brett Young, Beckie & Kevin Martin, Bonnie & Terence Poirier, Douglas & Britta Goud, Ryan & Heidi Fowler, Pam & Rory Windrum and Rhaea & Ryan Stinn. And by her great-grandchildren:  Chloe Martin, Mia Martin, Rhys Fowler, Colby Goud, Hudson Fowler, Clara Windrum, Emma Goud, Emerson Poirier, Elliot Windrum, and baby Poirier due in October. She is also survived by her brother, Allan Bell (Regina), and her sister Margaret (John) Forman (Chilliwack), and many nieces and nephews. Amy was predeceased by her parents, John (1969) & Eliza Bell (1982), her in-laws, George (1960) & (Mary) Nettie (1985) Fowler, her brother-in-law, Ralph Horley (1987), her beloved husband George (1994), her sister-in-law, Edna Bell (2004), her sister Sarah (Tib) Bell (2006), and her sister-in-law Edith Horley (2012). Amy was very interested in the Burrowing Owl program, so memorial donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre, 250 Thatcher Drive West, Moose Jaw, SK, S6J 1L7. We would like to thank all the staff at Providence Place for the excellent care they have given Mom since she has lived there--but especially the staff on St. Anthony’s wing—Mom loved you all!  A special thank you to the St. Anthony’s wing staff, and the Spiritual Care staff for your care, concern and love towards Mom and us over her last days. It was exceptional, greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten! In living memory of Amy, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
