HOOEY, Barry Jerome
May 3, 1959 - June 12, 2018

Barry "One Time" Hooey, passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB surrounded by family and loved ones.  Barry will be dearly missed by his children: son Matt Hooey of Moose Jaw, SK and daughter Chantal Hooey of Saskatoon, SK, and dearly beloved granddaughter Wynter;  his mother Doris Hooey; sisters: Gayle (Rob Just) Nielsen, Sheila (Don Heinrichs) Dixon, Lori (Rob Middlemiss) Hooey, Shelley Hooey, and Tricia (Darren Curry) Hooey; and brother Keith Hooey; he will be lovingly remembered by his former partner Nicole Wenner, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandniece as well as his extensive pool family and many friends.  Barry was predeceased by his father Neil Hooey; brother Garth Hooey; daughter Alisha Hooey; grandparents Christina & Frank Hooey, and Melvin (Jack) & Margaret (Mable) Erickson as well as his children’s mother Donna Huber. Barry was born in Moose Jaw, SK but moved with his family to Calgary in 1971. He moved around a lot before making his home permanently in Calgary in 1991. Barry took great pride in his work as a painter for over 40 years. His greatest joy however, was his involvement with the Calgary Pool Community. He started to play pool almost as soon as he was old enough to hold a cue.  Barry’s last pool team had an incredibly successful run, winning the 2017 VNEA World Pool Championship in Vegas, 2018 British Columbia Championship in Penticton as well as the 2018 Canadian Cue Sports Championship in Niagara Falls. His team went on to successfully defend their world Championship in Vegas in his honour.  Barry is lovingly referred to by the pool community as "Captain Calgary" and "One Time".  Visitation will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, (Prairie View Building, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.A Funeral Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 1:00p.m. with interment following at Sunset Cemetery, Moose Jaw, SK on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 2:00p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Lung Cancer Canada http://www.lungcancercanada.ca/Donate-Now.aspx  or Tom Bake Cancer Centre https://albertacancer.ca/donate.  To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.
