Norman Duaine Olson (formerly of Assiniboia) passed away on Thursday, November 22nd, 2018 at Gravelbourg Foyer D’Youville at the age of 90. Predeceased by his wife Maragert, son Duaine, brother Gordon, brother-in-law Lawrence and sisters-in-law Mildred and Roxie, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Ellen (Gregg) and family Kelly, Heather (Bobby), Katie (Kurtis), Emily (Dave), Josie (Lackin) and great-grandchildren Linkin and Nora; daughter-in-law Linda Fox and family Tammy (Jesse), Darren and great-grandchildren Alisha, Hailey, Carson, Waylon and Nathan; sister Beatrice Hewitt and brother-in-law Albert Rolke.

Norman was born August 25, 1928 at the Moose Jaw hospital. He was the first of three children born to Olaf and Carrie Olson. He took his schooling up to Grade 8 at Holly School. Norman spent most of his life working for farmers at Aneroid, Belle Plaine and Central Butte before trying out farming for himself. He loved the land. He also had a green thumb; his hobby was gardening. His gardens were amazing! Sadly, as his knee’s got worse he had to give it up, he truly missed it.

He married Margaret Herfindahl in November of 1954 and he doted on her. They were both hard workers while living the farm life. They enjoyed each other’s company while drinking their daily coffee. In later years, he did everything for her in her declining health.

Norman was the strong silent type. He was loyal, patient and honest. He loved watching his favorite boxer Muhammad Ali on TV. He loved country music, scratch tickets, peanuts and chocolate. Norman had quick wit and the occasional one-liner jokes. At the Foyer D’Youville he grew a passion for Bingo. He never wanted to miss playing it. He joined in most of the activities available to him.

Norman never asked for a lot. He believed if you work hard and show up, you will get by in life with all you truly need; family and friends.
