Edith Muriel Staples (Fishley)
May 25, 1920 – January 16, 2019

Edith Muriel Staples passed away on January 16, 2019 in Moose Jaw, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1979, her parents, three brothers and her sister. She is survived by 2 children Connie and Doug (Carolyn); 4 grandchildren  Dustin (Joleen), Courtney (Chad), Miranda, and Javyn;  3 great-grandchildren Zack, Scarlett, and Cas. She also leaves several cousins on the Fishley side, and many nieces and nephews. Muriel was born on the farm near Bethune, SK. Her father had allowed a school to be built on a piece of land not far from the house that became known as Waldorf school.  That is where she, her siblings, cousins and other farm children that live nearby went to school. Mom was one of the original bomb girls.  During WW2, she went to Ajax, ON, where the women put cordite into shells.  These shells were of varying sizes from hand gun size to large artillery shells.  She had a great time, but when she came home to Bethune for vacation after her first year in Ajax she decided she preferred prairie life and did not go back to Ontario. She said she had made at least a "gazillion"  Denver sandwiches at the Kresge lunch counter.  After her shift was over at Kresge’s she would go up to the civic centre and flip burgers. Mom also spent many years at the Capital Theatre while it was owned by Famous Players.  She locked the doors after the last movie played in Sept of 1982. Her health started to decline after 3 people close to her died within 6 weeks.  Joy Bradford in Dec 2016, Mary Connolly in Jan 2017, and mom’s sister Verna MacDonald in Feb 2017. We especially want to thank Nikki Reynolds from Vanity House for spoiling mom the way she did.  Mom really enjoyed her visits with you, and I appreciated your patience with her when she kept forgetting her appointments. Vicki Wadsworth, mom looked forward to her "spa days" at Avanti. You also had a special knack with her, and she liked the way you looked after her feet and nails. Bill Ireland, we are grateful for the way you looked out for mom at High Park.  She was always thrilled at Christmas when you brought her Christmas candies. Crescent Park Villa Retirement Home – thank you for your care.  Many of you went above and beyond in looking after mom.  Every day at least one of you were at the hospital to see how she was doing.  We are overwhelmed by the concern you have for your residents. To the staff at the ER and 3rd floor of the Wigmore, your care of mom was second to none.  Thank you. Dr Shin, your professionalism and kindness are amazing.  The people of Moose Jaw are very lucky to have you. Dr. G.B. VanHeerden, we have appreciated your concern and care for our mother over the last few years. Our mom, the daughter of a hard working sod buster was one tough old bird that wanted to hit 100 but didn’t quite make it.  Time to rest – Godspeed. A Memorial Tea will be held in the Redpath Lounge at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw, on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation made to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Edith, a memorial tree planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services.
