The family of Sylvia Yuzek (Prekaski) is very sad to announce the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother on May 11, 2022. Sylvia was born November 30, 1941, on the Prekaski family farm north of Sturgis, Saskatchewan. She completed the majority of her schooling in Sturgis. After high school she went to Prince Albert for nursing school at the Victoria Union Hospital, completing her Registered Nurse training on January 8, 1964. Prior to taking a nursing position at Preeceville Hospital she worked in Yorkton, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. Sylvia loved nursing and taking care of people, working in surgery and in the emergency department was what she enjoyed the most in her nursing career. On July 31, 1965, Sylvia married Ted Yuzek and together they raised 3 children in Sturgis. In 1982, Ted and Sylvia took over operating the Shell Canada Bulk fuel station in Sturgis. They ran Assiniboine Fuel along with their son Bob until 2001. Together they enjoyed many years camping and fishing, especially their many summers at McBride Lake. They enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family. Spending the holidays surrounded by people was important to Sylvia, there were times when she would host 40 or more people for Christmas dinner. They travelled to several tropical locations over the years creating great memories together. Sylvia enjoyed gardening, quilting, knitting, baking, and making her famous homemade garlic powder. Along with her amazing flowers and vegetable gardens she will be remembered for her perogies, cabbage and beet rolls, her handmade quilts and her delicious chocolate chip cookies! Watching curling, going to garage sales and concerts (Johnny Reid) made her happy. For Sylvia her favorite way to pass time was to spend her time with her husband (until his passing), her children and grandchildren. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband Theodore Yuzek, her parents Nick and Kathleen Prekaski (Melnychuk), in-laws Peter and Margaret Yuzek, her brothers Arthur, David and Donald, her sister Paulette, half-sister Marjorie and many other relatives. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her children Bob, Patty, Cathy (Trevor); grandchildren Hanna, Justyce, Jorja, Erica and Celena; sister-in-law Evelyn (Dennis) Tretiak; and brother in-law Danny (Corinne) Yuzek; and many nephews and nieces. A Private Family Service to honour Sylvia will take place at a later date. Donations can be made in Sylvia’s memory to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
