The Moose Jaw 11U AA Canucks have been lighting the scoreboard often in their first three games.

The team is 3-0 following a 28-7 drubbing of the Regina Pacers and a 15-0 defeat of the White Butte Broncos last week. They also have a 10-9, walkoff win over the Regina Blue Jays under their belts to start the year.

Canucks head coach Shane Sowden has been happy with the way they've played.

“I’ve been really happy with how our kids have come out,” Sowden said. “They come out, they’re focused, they listen really well, they work hard, they’re aggressive. We’ve been having some really good practices. (We’re) trying to get the kids lots of reps, just because with a very shortened season, we’re just trying to get on the diamond as much as possible. At this stage, fundamentals are just so key, and (so is) getting them good reps. So we’ve been doing that.”

There are a lot of players in the 11-year-old age group on this team, and Sowden has been impressed with the way they’ve improved as individuals.

“It’s amazing, just the maturity level physically and mentally these kids undergo between the ages of 9 and 11,” he said. “That’s probably the biggest change I’m seeing this year. Kids last year who are great kids but just aren’t there yet developmentally, a year later, they’re throwing strikes and hitting the ball harder. Everything is just more consistent and more confident.”

The Canucks are in Regina tonight to play the Blue Jays.
