We all remember as a kid playing outside until it was too dark and the streetlights come on.

That happened to the U13 AAA Moose Jaw Canucks, as they won 10-4 over the Regina Pacers in a game called due to darkness Thursday evening.

Canucks assistant coach Jon Cotter said the team played sharp both before and after a lengthy delay due to a nearby lightning storm.

“We came out ready to swing the bat,” Cotter said. “We had a good batting practice (Wednesday) and it carried over into (Thursday). Defensively, not many holes at all, and pitching, we threw strikes and got ahead in the count, and it was overall just a great team performance.”

Riley Cushway had three hits in the game, while Garrett Gulutzan and Owen Csada each struck out three in their time on the mound. Csada drove home three runs.

The Canucks got six runs in their half of the first inning. The Pacers are a team that has a win and a tie against the Canucks already this season, and Cotter said his team knew how important it was to jump ahead early.

“It’s always good to jump up ahead, and we’ve been doing that all year long,” Cotter said. “Then we kind of hit a bit of a lull in some games when we don’t score runs and we’re not as aggressive. It was great to see (Thursday) against a team that we’ve fought all year. Instead of having that lull, we kind of had that aggression and we never looked back.

The Canucks next action is at home Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader against White Butte.
